Seoul Grand Park: In Detail

Many tourists have visited Korea without including Seoul Grand Park in their itinerary.  Maybe because it's not their taste, it's far, it's expensive (not at all), it's not recommended, or they haven't heard of it at all and they don't know about it.

In my opinion, it's a must-see if you have kids with you and you want your kids to see what they only see on books. And they can find it in Seoul Grand Park's Zoo -- "home to thousands of animals and plants from all over the world."

Seoul Grand Park is a of the biggest park in the world that includes a Zoo (being the highlight), a Theme Park (Seoul Land), a Lake, a Rose Garden and a Museum of Contemporary Art.  The zoo, within the park is the 10th largest zoo in the world.  Think about it? Just the zoo itself is very big, how much more the entire park including the other 4sections. It has more than 3000 animals and 350 different kinds of species.

Inside the zoo, tourists would virtually travel to different parts of the world by visiting each region's treasured animals.  For instance, going to the African compound would let them see the beauty of wild animals like Lions, Tigers, Zebras, Giraffes and Hippopotamus.  On the other hand, hitting the Large Animal compound means going to the land of Elephants and Rhinos.  Obviously, hitting the Australian compound would tell you how Kangaroos and Emus look like in person rather than seeing it on books while we were young.  The Marine compound is the home of Sea Lions, Polar Bears, and Dolphins. And it doesn't end with animals because there are also 1,300 different species of plants in the park being Rose Garden as their highlight.

Where is Seoul Grand Park? Seoul Grand Park Zoo is in 159-1 Makgye-dong, Gwacheon-si, Seoul, South Korea.

How about the prices? People might think that it would be very expensive with all the endangered and never-before-heard animals available in the park.  But it is actually the other way around being one of cheapest and value-for-money places to visit in Korea!

How about going there? It's definitely easy with a dedicated station named Seoul Grand Park Station Subway Line 4 Exit 2. Please see the map below for more details. Depending on where you come from, check out which is the best station for you to transfer.

Finally, the zoo's admission hours vary from season to season.

  • Summer (March - October): 09:00am - 07:00pm
  • Winter (November - February): 09:00am - 06:00pm
  • Night (July 17 - August 31): 09:00am - 10:00pm
And you can enter the park an hour before it closes.  But of course, who would want to go to the park very late when in fact, even if you go on the opening hour, it's difficult to finish the entire park in detail.

Now, is Seoul Grand Park included in your travel itinerary already? If not, think again!
