Kyoto Shuhokaku Hotel: A Japanese traditional living

Thousands of hotels, guesthouses, inns bed & breakfast to choose from in this must-visit city of Kyoto, but we opted to stay in a Japanese inn known as Ryokan. This type of room feature tatami-matted rooms where guests rest and sleep.

Kyoto Shuhokaku Hotel is a traditional inn that offers a perfect Japanese traditional experience from the rooms to the food they served, from the lounge to the common bath area.
Hotel Entrance
Once you enter the hotel, you will immediately find a small souvenir shop selling traditional products. Just go straight a little further to find the check-in desks and the staffs would gladly help you. They were very helpful and accommodating. In fact, they provided us with a map and suggested routes on how to go around Kyoto.
Japanese wearing Yukata
Even in the hallways, you would realize the traditional feel of the hotel. Travel Tip: You have private showers in the room you can go to a public bath for everyone (onsen). Likewise, if you want a public bath experience exclusive to your family (people you are with), you can ask a staff to reserve a public bath for you.

Our Room:
The rooms were, as expected, very traditional but welcoming. The cloth used for sleeping is very soft that you seem like you are not on the tatami-matted floors. For sure, you can rest a lot here after a day trip around the city.

The dining table and cabinet were not spared in this traditional experience. In fact, they offer a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner called kaiseki. Yes, we tried it following a very exhausting tour. Travel Tip: Kaiseki is a must-try for another the traditional experience! This may cost a little more but every bite and the experience is all worth it.

And to complete my experience, I didn't miss my chance and wore Yukata, a loosed cotton kimono in place of bath robes provided in hotels. HAHA!
Aha!
How to go there:
By Subway Train:
  • Kiyomizu Gojo Station (Keihan Main Line). Once you alight the station, just walk along Gojo Dori street towards the east for about 10min and you will see the entrance of the hotel as showed above.
By Bus:
  • There are several buses that you may take going to the hotel since it is close to the main street. Some of the bus numbers you can take are: 4, 17, 10, 93, 202, 204 and 205. You would also go down near Kiyomizu Gojo station (Keihan Main Line) and walk along Gojo Dori street.
My Japanese traditional living is complete in this Ryokan: Kyoto Shuhokaku Hotel. You should definitely try Japanese inn when visiting Kyoto.
