World EXPO 2012: Yeosu, South Korea

"The Living Ocean and Coast"
June 6, 2012.

As the days are counting before we leave the country, the ASEAN and Zimbabwean students in Daejeon University had a field trip in World EXPO 2012 in Yeosu, South Korea. We went there to witness the ASEAN Culture & Tourism Fair 2012 sponsored by the ASEAN-Korea Centre at the same time see with our very own eyes the 2012 Yeosu Expo.

To start off our trip, we need to travel around 3hrs by to reach to the Expo and so we left Daejeon University 7:00am sharp. This is one of the field trips that no one was late even just for a minute! It seems that everyone is very excited! Who's not? It's one of the biggest festivals in Korea these days. Everyone charged and prepared themselves for this very long day. It's just a day trip so we are scheduled to arrive home around 10:00pm.

By the time we reached Yeosu, we all have full of energy and immediately posed for a group photo even just after we alight the bus. Like this:

Then, we got our tickets, queue for the security check then inside the event:

Since we arrived earlier than the event we ought to participate, we got the chance to explore the beautiful port city for 3hrs until the program starts at 2:00pm.  We were not able to check out all the pavilions because there were thousands of people visiting the place and queues and very long just like in theme parks.

Now, the main reason of coming here.  At around 1:30pm, we already went to the main EXPO Hall to grab our reserved seats for the 2:00pm traditional performance of all 10 ASEAN countries. By the way, do you know who are the 10 ASEAN member countries? If not, they are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam.

INTERIOR OF SOME PAVILIONS
No wonder why Korea was selected to host the 2012 World EXPO.  All of the pavilions are using state-of-the-art technologies. I was really amazed with the technologies that we have nowadays! These are just few of them:

IT'S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES
I won't let this blog past without promoting my country. I've posted a number of blogs already since I started a month ago but haven't posted about the Philippines.  This is my chance!

The Philippines had their own unique pavilion as well in this World EXPO. Needless to say, it is grounded on our  latest tourism slogan, It's More Fun in the Philippines! The pavilion showed different beautiful beaches in the country like the Boracay Island, Palawan Island, Pagsanjan Falls and other tourist destinations related to the EXPO's theme.  They also grab the chance to sell famous products - food, apparels, home designs, souvenirs - of the Philippines.  Of course, as a proud filipino, I brought my ASEAN friends inside the pavilion to have a taste of how fun in the Philippines!

The pavilions are really amazing! They used sophisticated technologies to come up with this great structure. Kudos to the developers!

In the end, we definitely enjoyed this tiring but very fruitful day. A full day tour of the EXPO might be very short to finish all the pavilions but it's worth it for a free field trip organized by the school.  Thanks to Daejeon University's International Office and ASEAN-Korea center for making this request possible.  If I could have other chance visiting this place, I would definitely grab it.

A must-visit in South Korea!
